Conner, Steinforth Lead Huskers at adidas Classic



The Nebraska track and field team concluded action at the two-day adidas Classic on Saturday at the Devaney Center Indoor Track.

Till Steinforth won the heptathlon and moved into fifth all-time in program history with a total score of 5,582 after clearing a personal-best 15-2 1/4 (4.63m) in the pole vault. Steinforth’s total is the best in the Big Ten this season and is tied for fifth nationally. Matthias Algarin placed third in the heptathlon with a total of 5,251.

Mayson Conner won the high jump with a clearance of 7-2 1/2 (2.20m), becoming the Big Ten leader and fourth-ranked high jumper in the country this season. Michael Hoffer finished runner-up with a height of 7-0 1/4 (2.14m), while Tyus Wilson placed fifth (6-8 3/4, 2.05m).

Kevin Shubert climbed to sixth in the Big Ten with a mark of 61-4 3/4 (18.71m) to win the shot put, edging runner-up Maxwell Otterdahl (60-10 1/2, 18.55m). Nick Ronnfeldt rounded out the Huskers in the top-five with a distance of 54-6 1/2 (16.62m).

Passmore Mudundulu leaped 48-2 3/4 (14.70m) to finish fourth in the triple jump, followed by Charlie Hoston’s jump of 46-11 1/2 (14.31m) to place fifth.

Darius Luff continued his success in the 60m hurdles, winning the event with a finish of 7.71. Tyler Drew placed fourth with a run of 8.08.

Nick Bryant won the 600m with a run of 1:19.37, while Alex Nelson (6.82) and Chris Ramsey (6.87) placed second and fourth in the 60m, respectively.

Niko Schultz finished runner-up with a time of 1:54.09 in the 800m, followed by Daniel Mattern in fifth with a run of 1:55.69.

Cory Berg, Nelson, Clayton Keys and Bryant teamed up to win the 4x400m relay with a run of 3:16.26.

On the women’s side, the Huskers had three of the top-four finishes in the 60m hurdles, shot put and triple jump.

Winsome Harris and LaQwasia Stepney finished back-to-back in first and second with times of 8.56 and 8.57 in the 60m hurdles. Johanna Ilves had a fourth-place finish with a run of 8.64.

Axelina Johansson won the shot put with a toss of 56-4 (17.17m). Taylor Latimer had a mark of 53-2 3/4 (16.22m) to place runner-up and Kalynn Meyer came in fourth at 48-4 (14.73m).

Ashley McElmurry won the triple jump with a leap of 39-9 1/4 (12.12m). Lotavia Brown finished third with a jump of 38-6 3/4 (11.75m), followed by Favour Wanjoku with a mark of 37-8 1/2 (11.49m) in fourth.

Jamieson Battistella clocked a 1:40.69 to place second in the 600m, while Karlie Moore covered the track in 57.36 to finish fourth in the 400m.

Rounding out the top-five finishes for the Huskers, Jessica Gardner tied for fifth in the pole vault with a clearance of 12-8 3/4 (3.88m).

The Huskers host the 46th annual Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational on Friday-Saturday, Feb. 4-5 at the Devaney Center Indoor Track.
