Christopulos Earns Second Weekly Honor



Taylor Christopulos was named NCAA Rookie of the Week for the second time this season, announced the College Gymnastics Association Tuesday afternoon for his performance against Ohio State on Saturday, March 6. 

The Layton, Utah native claimed the vault title for the fourth time this season helping the Huskers to a big win against the Buckeyes. Christopulos has claimed the top spot on vault at every competition thus far. The freshman is currently ranked No. 1 in the NCAA on the vault with an average score of 14.787. 

Christopulos also competed in the all-around competition for the first time in his career, finishing in second with a score of 79.20 behind Ohio State’s Jesse Tyndall. 

On rings, Christopulos earned a career-high score of 13.80 and tied for third with Ohio State’s Josh Seltzer. On floor, he finished with a score of 13.30 while on pommel horse he earned a 12.30. Christopulos competed on parallel bars for the first time this year earning a 11.95, and he finished on high bar where he notched a 12.90. 

This is Christopulos’ second time earning the NCAA Rookie of the Week award and his fifth weekly honor of the year. Christopulos last claimed this honor February 13. 

Minnesota’s Shane Wiskus was named the NCAA Gymnast of the Week and Stanford’s Blake Wilson was named NCAA Specialist of the Week. 

The Huskers return to action Saturday, March 20 for the final regular season meet against Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. The meet will be on the Big Ten Network at 3:00 p.m. CT.
