Christopulos Claims Third Big Ten Freshman of the Week Honor



Taylor Christopulos earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week Honors announced the Big Ten Conference Monday afternoon for his performance against Ohio State on Saturday, March 6. 

The freshman claimed the vault title for the fourth time this season. Christopulos has claimed the top spot on vault at every competition thus far. The Layton, Utah native is currently ranked No. 1 in the NCAA on the event. 

Christopulos also competed in the all-around competition for the first time in his career, finishing in second with a score of 79.20. 

On rings, Christopulos earned a career-high score of 13.80 and tied for third with Ohio State’s Josh Seltzer. On floor, he finished with a score of 13.30 while on pommel horse he earned a 12.30. Christopulos competed on parallel bars for the first time this year earning a 11.95, and he finished on high bar where he notched a 12.90. 

This is Christopulos’ third time earning the Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor, and his fourth weekly honor of the year. Nebraska’s last Big Ten Freshman of the Week award was the week of February 21 which Christopulos claimed. 

“I could not be more proud of Taylor. He just keeps working hard, and I am so pleased with how he is excelling. He really showed out for senior night,” said coach Chmelka. 

Michigan’s Cameron Bock and Minnesota’s Shane Wiskus were named Co-Gymnast of the Week by the Big Ten Conference as well. 

The Huskers return to action Saturday, March 20 for the final regular season meet against Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. The meet will be live-streamed on BTN+ at 2:00 p.m. CT.
