Breon Dixon granted waiver, can play for Huskers in 2018

Nebraska outside linebacker and Ole Miss transfer Breon Dixon was granted a waiver by the NCAA on Thursday and will be able to play in the 2018 season.

Dixon transferred to Nebraska in January. He played safety during his freshman year last season, but worked at outside linebacker this spring.

Outside linebackers coach Jovan Dewitt said during spring practice that Dixon’s experience in the secondary could help him excel in his new role as a linebacker.

“He does a good job in terms of coverage and things like that,” Dewitt said. “He’s got a natural coverage set and skill out in space that he does a really good job with. He’s doing really well. Every now and then, there’s a flash of his athletic ability from his safety days and his (defensive back) days. He’s got an ability to burst that you don’t normally see.”

Dixon had eight total tackles for the White Squad in Nebraska’s spring game, including two tackles for loss.
