Baete Wins Nebraska Match Play Title



Husker Kirsten Baete defeated former teammate Haley Thiele in the championship of the Nebraska Women’s Match Play at Amarii Dunes Golf Club in Axtell on Thursday morning.

Baete, a senior from Beatrice, outlasted Thiele, a 2020 Husker graduate from Wahoo, 5 & 3 in the championship match. Baete’s victory completed an all-Husker final four at the 98th Nebraska Women’s Match Play Championship.

Baete advanced to Thursday’s final with a 3 & 2 win over teammate Nicole Hansen in the semifinals, while Haley Thiele defeated her younger sister and current Husker freshman Lindsey Thiele 1 up.

Baete advanced to the semifinals with a 1 up win over current Husker teammate Vanessa Bouvet in the quarterfinals on Wednesday. Bouvet earned the No. 1 seed in the round of 16 match play after earning medalist honors with a 70 (-2) in the stroke play portion of the event on Tuesday.
