Blood Marry not just for Dinner any more!

Since this Spot is mostly a Husker Football site and most of the discussions is on Husker football. I thought what is more of a tradition then the partaking of a good Blood Mary. To be honest I have probably only drank a handful of Bloody Mary’s but the most memorable was the last time I was back in Lincoln a few years back for a Husker game. I thought I made as well take in the whole tradition and order and enjoy a Blood Mary before the game.

A friend from the Spot was in the role of Guide for the day which included the festive in the Hay Market Area. What a great place to be around Huskers fans prior to the game. The Hay Market not in existence the last time I was in Nebraska in the late 80s. My only regrets we was not able to spend more time at the Market prior to the game.

So I ordered my first Bloody Mary in years. What an event this was. It had at least three meats in it and I lost count of the veggies that were also included. A few of these and I would not only have to pass up the Runzas in the stadium but my alcohol intake would be accomplished for the day. Plus the young lady that was making the drinks was dressed in a School Girl outfit. What’s that all about?

In the United States, the Bloody Mary is commonly known as   “Hair of the dog” drink, reputed to cure hangovers with its combination of a heavy vegetable base to settle one’s stomach, salt to replenish lost electrolytes and alcohol to relieve head and body aches. Most medical advice suggests that the alcohol only numbs the discomfort. I don’t know about that but this Bloody Marry was an event.

What is you favorite Bloody Mary story(s)? Best place to get a Bloody Mary on Game Day, either in Lincoln or wherever you call home.
