Volleyball: #3 Huskers Hold Serve, Knock off Michigan State

A Sunday matinee at the Devaney Center pitted the #3 Nebraska Volleyball team against the Michigan State Spartans.

For the second time this season, the Huskers played host to a Sunday afternoon match at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, this time to the Michigan State Spartans. The #3 Huskers sent the visitors home with a loss, 3-1 (25-18, 25-9, 21-25, 25-16).

The Huskers handled the Spartans pretty well through the first two sets, including the decisive second set, but Michigan State’s adjustments at the intermission befuddled the Huskers in the third set, with their attack being more effective, and the defense keeping Husker balls off the floor. The final set again fell the Huskers’ way.

The stats don’t necessarily tell the story of this match. The Huskers’ worst hitting number was in the final set, where they hit a paltry .071. However, the Spartans hit -.062 in that set, so the Huskers earned the decisive set win. Overall, the Husker offense hit .224 while the defense held the Spartans to .047.
