Two Huskers Honored by Big Ten



A pair of Husker basketball players were honored by the Big Ten Conference on Tuesday as the 2020-21 awards were announced. Senior Thorir Thorbjarnarson was Nebraska’s nominee for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award while Teddy Allen was an honorable-mention All-Big Ten selection by the conference media.

Thorbjarnarson was honored for his performance on the court and in the classroom. This season, he is played in all 26 games, including 11 starts and is averaging 3.6 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. He has been a catalyst for the Huskers over the past three weeks, setting personal bests in points (10), rebounds (eight), assists (six) and steals (four) during the Huskers’ last four games dating back to Feb. 27. A two-year starter, he is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten section and was named a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar in 2020.

Allen played in 22 games, including 21 starts and averaged a team-high 16.5 points per game. He had eight 20-point games, including a career 41-point effort against Penn State on Feb. 21. Allen announced his departure from the program on March 1.

The Huskers open Big Ten Tournament action against Penn State on Wednesday evening. Tipoff is scheduled for25 minutes following the Minnesota-Northwestern game set for 5:30 p.m. central. The game will be televised on BTN and carried on the Learfield IMG College Husker Sports Network.
