Thoughts on the 2019 Recruiting Class

First, I am proud of how our boys played yesterday. Many expected us to be blown out – both within our fan base and outside it. Yes, this loss hurts simply because it’s Iowa, but they showed up and fought their asses off. They fought their asses off against a long tenured coach, senior laden team, and deeply instilled culture in a crazy, cluster f*** of a year where those things make the difference.

I am curious of what people’s thoughts are on the 2019 class. I have heard them referred to as the “foundational” class for this staff’s (yes, staff’s, not Frost’s) rebuild. Are you encouraged by what you have seen? Are you concerned? Or do you think it will be more of the same – promise shown and then lack of development or regression leading to disappointment?

Personally, I am incredibly encouraged. With the exception of Wandale, they are all in their first season of live action. At times, it has looked like their first season, but the physical traits and skill I have seen from the class makes me excited for the future. I think their continued development this remaining season and offseason will be what gets us over the hump of close losses and dumb mistakes. They don’t have all the pieces we will need to be a GREAT team, but they have a lot of what we need. With many of them being in their first season, it’s why I can accept the excuse of a young team, but this is the last time. Next year, I won’t allow it. Yes, they will only be sophomores, but it will be year 3 in the program and year 2 of live action.

I’ll hang up now and listen to your response.
