Tell me your own thoughts on Jeff Sims and other new players you’re curious to see this fall

Longwinded rant, but ultimately I want to know what you all think…

Husker radio shows and podcasts have been buzzing the past couple days about CT transferring. It feels like some are trying to blame Sims for this happening, when the reasonable explanation is that Casey doesn’t want to waste time bench-warming during his final year of eligibility. I personally think Rhule wanted a more naturally athletic QB for his, and Satt’s, offensive scheme. If Rhule does implement the RPO like he did at Baylor, Sims is obviously the better, more sturdy choice for QB1.

Like many on this sub, I consider myself a college football nerd and keep up with the division races for basically all FBS conferences. Sims pulled a couple of decent wins out of his ass last year, including a victory over a ranked Pitt squad who had only lost to Tennessee before then. I think Sims has a lot of potential to be a difference maker in close games this fall. If you looks at his stats, you’ll see that his numbers regressed each year, but his tape from last season shows that actual QB mechanics and overall arm strength improved.

The spring game showed us that the talent is there on both sides of the ball (spare me the OL/DL discussion, I hear ya). The biggest challenge for the coaching staff is meshing all of the transplants along with our existing talent. Encouragingly enough, I don’t foresee any players being inhibited from earned playing time like we saw happen (and not happen) with the previous staff.
