Stott Breaks School Record on Day Two

During the second day of the 2023 Big Ten Championships, Nebraska swimming and diving sent a trio of swimmers to both the 500 freestyle and the 200 IM finals.

Highlighting the day was Shannon Stott who shattered the 500 freestyle school record during Thursday’s preliminary session at the Canham Natatorium in Ann Arbor, Mich. The senior from St. Albans, Great Britain clocked a 4:41.65 to qualify for the A-final and better her NCAA B-Standard Cut. In the final, Stott swam a 4:44.45 to finish eighth and earn a podium finish for the Huskers.

Gena Jorgenson swam a 4:46.94 in the prelims to grab her first NCAA B Standard Cut and qualify for the B-final. The freshman from Aberdeen, S.D., dropped even more time in the final, with a 4:45.02 to take 13th. That marked Jorgenson’s career-best 500 freestyle time and moves her up to third in Nebraska history.

Molly Rosenthal rounded out Nebraska’s 500 freestyle finalists, swimming a career-best 4:50.72 in the prelims to qualify for the C-final. She finished 24th overall with a time of 4:53.84 in the final.

In the 200 IM, Berkeley Livingston, Sarah Barton and Gabby Donahue swam side-by-side in the C-final. Livingston swam a career-best 2:00.88 in the prelims to move into eighth on the All-Time list. She went on to finish 23rd in the final with a time of 2:01.38. Barton improved upon her time from prelims to take 21st with a 2:00.82. Donahue pitched in a career-best 2:01.47 in the morning session, and during the final, she clocked a 2:02.82 to place 24th.

Emily Haimes produced the top finish for NU in the 50 freestyle prelims, placing 37th with a 23.24. That is Haimes’ best time swam at Nebraska.
