Nebraska defensive lineman Ben Stille was one of 30 national candidates for the 2021 Senior CLASS Award announced on Wednesday, Oct. 6.

The Senior CLASS award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as a senior or graduate student and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

A native of Ashland, Nebraska, Stille has played in 47 games in his career with 28 starts. He has totaled 126 tackles, 28.5 tackles for loss and 13.0 sacks in his career. This season, Stille has started every game at defensive end and recorded 19 tackles, including 2.5 TFLs. He was named to the Senior Bowl Watch List this summer.

In the classroom, Stille earned his bachelor’s degree in nutrition and health sciences in 2019 and his master’s degree in the same discipline in 2021. A four-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, he is also a semifinalist for the prestigious Campbell Trophy, which recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership.

Stille is also one of Nebraska’s most active student-athletes in the community, as he has earned five appointments to both the Brook Berringer and Tom Osborne Citizenship Teams for his outreach efforts. He is a two-time AFCA Good Works Team nominee and a two-time member of the Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, which recognizes the player who best combines exemplary community service with leadership achievement on and off the field.

The 30 Senior CLASS Award candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists later in the season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
