Seven Husker men’s gymnasts were named Academic All-Big Ten honorees announced the Big Ten Conference on Monday, May 11. The Big Ten Conference recognized a total of 946 students competing in winter sports.
Among the honorees were men’s gymnasts Jake Bonnay, Evan Hymanson, Khalil Jackson, Dylan LeClair, Zach Peters, Mitch Tyndall and Noah Urwiler.
Senior Jake Bonnay capped his career at Nebraska earning All-American Regular season honors on floor despite the season ending early due to the coronavirus pandemic. A Nissen-Emery Award finalist, Bonnay finished the season earning three individual titles and setting one individual career-high score. A 2020 team captain, Bonnay earned NCAA Specialist of the Week honors after his performance against Minnesota and Army West Point, where he posted 14.55 on floor, 13.95 on vault., 14.25 on parallel bars and 13.50 on high bar. Outside the gym, Bonnay also was a leader for the Huskers. In the classroom, Bonnay earned Academic All-Big Ten honors and a spot on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll. Additionally, he was named a Nebraska Bronze Academic Medallion Winner, while also earning a spot on the Tob Osborne Citizenship Team for his service to in the community. This is Bonnay’s third time being selected as an Academic All-Big Ten honoree.
Junior Evan Hymanson earns Academic All-Big Ten honors for the third year in a row. Hymanson competed in all five meets this season before the season ended early due to the coronavirus pandemic. Hymanson earned three individual titles and set two individual career-high scores. Outside the gym, Hymanson also earned a spot on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll and was named to the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team. Additionally, Hymanson earned the Sam Foltz 27 Hero Leadership Award and a Nebraska Gold Academic Medallion.
Sophomore Khalil Jackson was a leader in the classroom despite being sidelined for the 2020 season due to an injury. In addition to his Academic All-Big Ten honors, Jackson also earned a spot on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll and was awarded a Nebraska Bronze Academic Medallion. In the community, Jackson was named to the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.
Sophomore Dylan LeClair competed regularly during the 2020 season and earned two new individual career-high scores. LeClair earns Academic All-Big Ten honors as well as a spot on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll, a spot on the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team and was awarded a Nebraska Silver Academic Medallion.
Junior Zach Peters was a leader in the gym and the classroom during the 2020 season. Serving as a captain, Peters competed regularly before the season ended early. Peters earned Academic All-Big Ten honors for the second year in a row. Additionally, Peters earned a spot on the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team and was awarded a Nebraska Bronze Academic Medallion.
Sophomore Mitch Tyndall earns Academic All-Big Ten honors for the second in a row. Tyndall competed regularly during the 2020 season earning his first individual title on parallel bars against Iowa and posting four individual career-highs. Tyndall also earned a spot on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll, the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team and the Nebraska Bronze Academic Medallion.
Freshman Noah Urwiler rounds out the team as the final Academic All-Big Ten honoree. Urwiler also received the Nebraska Silver Academic Medallion, a spot on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll and a spot on the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.
