Scheve Matches Personal Best in Strong Top-15 Finish at Visit Knoxville Collegiate

Gentry Scheve, a senior on the Nebraska men’s golf team, equaled his career-best 54-hole score of 208 to secure a top-15 placement at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate event in Loudon, Tennessee.

Scheve maintained his momentum after an impressive opening day, where he carded a 66. In the subsequent rounds, he shot a 73 (+3) and a final-round 69 (-1), sprinkling five birdies in the last 18 holes. His performance on Sunday took him to one-under for the day and two-under for the tournament, tying him with four other competitors for 12th place on the 7,280-yard Tennessee National course. This score of 208 has only been matched once before in his college career, on April 11, 2023, at the Tiger Collegiate in Colombia, Missouri.

Reed Malleck, another senior from York, Nebraska, rounded off the tournament with a consistent 73 (+3), adding to his initial rounds of 72 (+2) and 71 (+1). Malleck ended up tied for 37th with a total score of 216 (+6).

Both Grant Jabenis and Will Marshall completed the event tied for 53rd, finishing with scores of 220 (+10). Jabenis closed the tournament on a high note, carding an even-par 70 in the final round.

Completing the Nebraska lineup, junior Harry Crockett of Oxted, England, tied for 60th with a score of 222 (+12).

The Cornhuskers ranked ninth in the 14-team competition, posting a total score of 859 strokes, 19-over par. Tournament hosts No. 9 Tennessee emerged victorious with an 815 (-25), closely followed by No. 29 Ole Miss with 816 (-24).

Hunter Logan from Mississippi State dominated individually, ending 11-under par for the event.

Next up, Nebraska is set to participate in their second tournament of the 2023-24 season in Cincinnati, Ohio. The competition is slated for Monday, September 18th, through the 19th.
