Results of the Dude, Guy, Bust: 2016 Class Edition Survey

Hey /r/Huskers! I decided to close the Dude, Guy, Bust survey for the 2016 class and compile the results here. I’m going to change the name back to Dude, Guy, Bust for the rest of eternity since the vote came out in favor of it, and honestly I like that name more. [Snip snap snip snap]( https://tenor.com/bbyJM.gif). I didn’t really do much with the TBD info this time, but it’ll become more prominent as we get into younger players. I’ll likely have the next survey posted tomorrow.

In order to quantifiably determine which player is a Dude, Guy, or Bust, I decided to take the results, and assign every Dude/Hit vote a score of 2, every Guy vote a 1, every Who? vote a 0, and every Bust/Miss vote a -1. To Be Determined votes were not considered in computing the index. I added up the scores of each player and normalized them to a scale of 0-1 where a 0 is where every respondent gave a vote of Miss and 1 is where every respondent gave a vote of Hit. This score will henceforth be called the Dude-Guy-Bust Index (DGB-Index). In order to classify the Dude-ness of a player, I took whichever score their DGB-Index as closest to (and excluded No Opinion as a classification option). This means that 0-0.3333 is a Miss/Bust, 0.3334-0.8333 is a Guy, and 0.8334-1 is a Hit/Dude. The breakdown of the class using this method is as follows:

– Dudes: 4

– Guys: 7

– Busts: 10

Below I’ve listed out each Dude, Guy, and Bust in order of their DGB-Index and gave a short blurb for each player:

# Dudes

– WR __J.D. Spielman__ ([Results](https://i.imgur.com/549Zfhg.png) | 247 Composite: 0.8690 3*): 0.9307 DGB-Index. A very interesting situation right at the top of our board. Originally an RB coming out of high school, Spielman switched positions to WR and was dominant early and often, having never hauled in fewer than 800 receiving yards in a season. Despite being rated the highest by the survey respondents and holding numerous distinctions as a Husker football player, J.D. recently announced his intent to transfer. If he would have stayed, he most likely would have shattered the career receiving yards record at Nebraska.

– DB __Lamar Jackson__ ([Results]( https://i.imgur.com/No5VhEu.png) | 247 Composite: 0.9594 4*): 0.8602 DGB-Index. Lamar came into Nebraska as an extremely highly touted recruit and looked as though he would never live up to the billing. In his Junior season, he was benched after an untimely Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalty and was forced to re-earn his starting position. Spoiler alert, he did. Since that point, he’s been a very solid player for Nebraska and even earned 3rd team All-Big Ten distinctions this past season.

– DB __Dicaprio Bootle__ ([Results]( https://i.imgur.com/hROTz1B.png) | 247 Composite: 0.8280 3*): 0.8590 DGB-Index. Dicaprio was a very under-recruited DB out of high school who earned an offer to Nebraska after the coaches at the time saw him run an extremely good 40 time at a camp. Despite being lowly rated and largely ignored by P5 schools other than Nebraska, he has now played in 36 out of 36 games since the beginning of his Redshirt Freshman season and started the last 24 of those. He has still not intercepted a pass, but has consistently ranked as one of the better DBs in the country at forcing incompletions. This past season, he earned Honorable Mention All-Big Ten honors.

– LB __Jojo Domann__ ([Results]( https://i.imgur.com/2nPvFTF.png) | 247 Composite: 0.8619 3*): 0.8571 DGB-Index. I’m honestly a little surprised to see Domann here, but in hindsight it makes sense. Originally a safety, he ended up growing out of the position and transitioned to Outside Linebacker. He’s battled quite a few unfortunate injuries in his career, but this past year he was able to play in all 12 games and regularly proved himself to be a playmaker. He had 10 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles this past year and is possibly the best at playing in coverage among all the Linebackers on the roster at this moment.

# Guys

– DL __Ben Stille__ ([Results](https://i.imgur.com/WYUksKu.png) | 247 Composite: 0.8578 3*): 0.7995 DGB-Index. A homegrown Husker, Ben Stille originally started his career at Outside Linebacker and showed early flashes of playmaking ability. He quickly bulked up and transitioned to the Defensive Line, where he has been a heavy contributor in the rotation the past two seasons. With the Davis twins off to the NFL, Stille now has a chance to take on a bigger role and prove that he has another level to his game.

– OL __Matt Farniok__ ([Results](https://i.imgur.com/LsqZ8hD.png) | 247 Composite: 0.8934 4*): 0.7954 DGB-Index. From the South Dakota Husker croot factory Washington High School (Nate Gerry, younger brother Will Farniok, and Randolph Kpai also attend(ed)), Matt has been a fixture on the line for quite a while now, having started 28 games to this point. He is most likely transition from the Tackle position to Guard, which is his more natural position, so we hopefully will see a big step forward.

– DB __Marquel Dismuke__ ([Results](https://i.imgur.com/7g6PvKy.png) | 247 Composite: 0.9087 4*): 0.7006 DGB-Index. The last player still on the roster from that fabled #Calibraska movement. Dismuke started every game this past year and is known to be a player that is well-versed in the playbook and can always be trusted to do his job within the scheme.

– TE __Jack Stoll__ ([Results](https://i.imgur.com/3ynjqz2.png) | 247 Composite: 0.8524 3*): 0.6820 DGB-Index. I swear Nebraska will start using the Tight End position more one of these days. Stoll has started 24 straight games and has showed some potential flashes of greatness and his last two seasons have been solid, but he still has yet to put together a truly big year.

– OL __Boe Wilson__ ([Results](https://i.imgur.com/RyCENi9.png) | 247 Composite: 0.8559 3*): 0.5990 DGB-Index. Wilson has started the last 21 games at Guard on the Offensive Line. He will be in a large battle this upcoming season for the Left Guard position now that Matt Farniok is transitioning to Right Guard.

– LB __Collin Miller__ ([Results](https://i.imgur.com/bYitjuN.png) | 247 Composite: 0.8496 3*): 0.5976 DGB-Index. Miller originally came to Nebraska as a Defensive End, then transitioned to Outside Linebacker when Riley brought in Bob Diaco to change to a 3-4 defense, then moved again to Inside Linebacker when the Frost staff arrived. Usually when you see someone bounce around positions like that, it isn’t good, but he’s developed into a consistent contributor despite all that. He started every game this past season and didn’t put up flashy numbers, but he’ll have the opportunity to take on a bigger role now that Mohammed Barry has graduated.

– RB __Tre Bryant__ ([Results](https://i.imgur.com/YWar5Ty.png) | 247 Composite: 0.8638 3*): 0.5139 DGB-Index. Bryant is one of those “what could have been” type stories. After playing a bit his Freshman year and avoiding a redshirt, he came out at the beginning of his Sophomore year with his hair on fire. He rushed for 192 and 107 yards respectively in his first two games that season, but came out with a mysterious knee injury at the end of the Oregon game. He never played another game for Nebraska and medically retired before his Junior season. Fortunately, he recently announced on Twitter that he started an internship with the athletic department’s graphic design department, so it sounds like he gets to be involved in the department in some way.

# Busts

– OL __John Raridon__ ([Results](https://i.imgur.com/g6ae2xl.png) | 247 Composite: 0.9452 4*): 0.1978 DGB-Index. A Husker legacy and highly touted recruit out of Iowa, Raridon only saw time in a handful of games and retired from football this January.

– OL __Bryan Brokop__ ([Results](https://i.imgur.com/EzJE6xl.png) | 247 Composite: 0.8847 3*): 0.1913 DGB-Index. Brokop never played in a game and announced his intent to transfer before his Redshirt Sophomore season. I couldn’t find any information on where he ended up.

– LB __Greg Simmons__ ([Results](https://i.imgur.com/OqtQwKR.png) | 247 Composite: 0.8525 3*): 0.1870 DGB-Index. Greg Simmons never played a down at Nebraska and transferred to Duquesne after his redshirt year.

– DB __Tony Butler__ ([Results](https://i.imgur.com/2gLoCMo.png) | 247 Composite: 0.8650 3*): 0.1526 DGB-Index. Tony Butler played quite a few snaps as a special teams player during his career, and opted to grad transfer to Kent State this offseason.

– TE __David Engelhaupt__ ([Results](https://i.imgur.com/SCIUObf.png) | 247 Composite: 0.7932 2*): 0.1367 DGB-Index. Engelhaupt appeared in a few games for Nebraska, but chose to retire from football after his Redshirt Freshman year.

– WR __Derrion Grim__ ([Results](https://i.imgur.com/hhlmyc4.png) | 247 Composite: 0.8504 3*): 0.1290 DGB-Index. After early enrolling at Nebraska, Grim transferred out after his first spring semester. He transferred to Fresno State and has had 708 career receiving yards there so far.

– LB __Quayshon Alexander__ ([Results](https://i.imgur.com/zDfVyu9.png) | 247 Composite: 0.8756 3*): 0.1247 DGB-Index. Alexander never played in a game at Nebraska and transferred after his Redshirt Sophomore season. He is now at FCS Towson.

– LB __Pernell Jefferson__ ([Results](https://i.imgur.com/9Fdnkch.png) | 247 Composite: 0.8441 3*): 0.1053 DGB-Index. Jefferson never played in a game and announced his intent to transfer this offseason. It appears he is heading to D2 Arkansas-Monticello

– P __Caleb Lightbourn__ ([Results](https://i.imgur.com/HGbHAKp.png) | 247 Composite: 0.8234 3*): 0.0817 DGB-Index. Oh boy. Lightbourn was thrust into a starting Punter role his freshman year after the tragic loss of Sam Foltz. He played in a lot of games as Punter but ended up losing his role and transferring to Oregon State. He will sadly be remembered (if at all) for plays like [this terrible kickoff]( https://youtu.be/c3H2yYHtQf4) or [this negative 2 yard punt]( https://youtu.be/jAa2GVOj0xg).

– QB __Patrick O’Brien__ ([Results](https://i.imgur.com/TO1gFnK.png) | 247 Composite: 0.9189 4*): 0.0623 DGB-Index. A highly touted Quarterback recruit and member of the #Calibraska crew, O’Brien made a few appearances in games at Nebraska, but transferred after Frost came in due to not fitting the new offensive scheme. He ended up at Colorado State, where he passed for 2,803 yards and 13 touchdowns last year.

What are your thoughts? Any particularly fond memories of the players above you’d like to mention? Are there any players that you disagree with their classification? Are there any suggestions on how this concept could be improved upon?
