Report: Three Husker Football Players to Transfer Luke McCaffrey Kade Warner Will Farniok

Nebraska football media are tweeting that three Husker football players have entered their names in the transfer portal. All three played on the offensive side of the ball (pun intended) for the Huskers.

Quarterback Luke McCaffrey has been the subject of much speculation by Husker fans as he briefly took over the starting quarterback job when Adrian Martinez struggled. However, Luke had plenty of struggles of his own, totaling one passing touchdown, three rushing touchdowns but also two fumbles lost and six interceptions. He is a supremely talented athlete, but didn’t appear to have the accuracy needed to be a big time quarterback (admittedly he is only in his second year, so that could improve). With Martinez appearing to solidify his grip on the starting spot (and possibly doing so for two more years) and highly touted recruit Logan Smothers in the QB room, McCaffrey may have decided to seek out signal calling duties elsewhere.

It could also be something else entirely. It’s hard to know.

Kade Warner walked on to the Husker program in 2017 and was voted a team captain for the 2020 season. However, he saw his playing time dwindle as the season went on and Oliver Martin and Zavier Betts emerged.

Will Farniok challenged Cameron Jurgens for the starting center spot in 2019, but as we all know, Jurgens got the nod. In 2020, Farniok slipped in the depth chart and only made one game appearance. With his older brother, Matt, off to the NFL, he probably also decided to look elsewhere for a chance at playing time.

We wish them all the best of luck and hope they find success (unless they end up playing against the Huskers of course!) wherever they land.
