Rapid Reaction: 12 Blackshirts so far, but they must be earned weekly, Frost says | Football

Nebraska head coach Scott Frost watches a replay on a video screen last Saturday at Memorial Stadium.

Nebraska head coach Scott Frost spoke to reporters Thursday as the Huskers get close to the end of the practice week ahead of Saturday’s home game against Illinois.

Here are the highlights:

* Nebraska handed out 12 Blackshirts this week, Frost said. They are:

Defensive backs Cam Taylor-Britt, Dicaprio Bootle, Deontai Williams and Marquel Dismuke; inside linebackers Collin Miller and Will Honas; outside linebackers Garrett Nelson, Caleb Tannor and JoJo Domann; and defensive linemen Damion Daniels, Ben Stille and Ty Robinson.

The Blackshirts aren’t permanent for the season, Frost said. “I don’t want it to be like Halloween, where you just walk up, knock on the door and get a piece of candy,” he said.

* Frost said that he thinks Nebraska has responded well in practice this week following Saturday’s win against Penn State.

I think we’re ready. That was the message all week is you can’t relax after a win,” Frost said.

* Nebraska must win the turnover battle in order to beat Illinois on Saturday. Last year, the Huskers lost four fumbles against the Illini, which is part of the reason they had to scramble late to pull out a 42-38 victory.
