Question RE: Something Sam Mckewon Said Yesterday

(I meant to post this yesterday, but got sidetracked and wanted to confirm the language Sam used. I know it’s past history and signing day has happened so it really doesn’t matter, but I am forever curious about things. So if you dont like speculations/questions of season’s past then this might not be the post from you.)

Yesterday, 1620 the Zone interviewed Sam Mckewon about how we got to this point with Dylan Raiola. First Sam discussed Dominic Raiola’s own journey here playing a role. Then he added (quoted as I best could, though I cleaned it up a little): “We got here when Scott Frost got fired. For reasons not entirely clear to me, that relationship just didn’t work between the Raiola family and Scott. So Matt Rhule comes in; it’s sort of like a reset button…and I think Matt Rhule did all the right things.”

I think it was the “for reasons not entirely clear” part of the quote that is throwing me off a bit. Is this really something Sam doesn’t know of or could speculate on? I have only read rumors on what may have led to some souring of any recruitment during the Frost era. Mckewon doesn’t have to tell the audience what he knows or heard went down, but it seemed like odd language from someone who is likely clued in a lot more than most.

Is this just Sam being vague and maybe not selecting the best words (“it didn’t work out” might be sufficient and maybe my takeaway should just be “Rhule did all the right things.”)? Or do you think he really doesn’t have an idea on how we would have a former Husker QB/head coach not be able to connect better with the QB son of a Husker legend?
