Philly QB wants to camp, Nebraska offers 315-pound 15-year-old tackle

As the spring evaluation period winds down for college football coaches, Nebraska’s scholarship offers to 2025, 2026 and 2027 prospects kept rolling out.

Coaches have until Saturday to visit prospects on their campuses – what the NCAA calls a “contact period” – before the long Memorial Day weekend. On May 30, programs can start hosting official visits and camps through June 23. Those 25 days will be among the busiest all year for Nebraska football’s recruiting staff.

“June, I probably won’t be home very much,” NU senior director of player personnel Vince Guinta quipped on Wednesday. According to recruiting site and reporter confirmations, between 15 and 25 prospects in the 2025 class will take their visits in June. Hundreds more will train in one of NU’s camps.

It’s a whirlwind that started for Husker assistants after the spring game when they hit the road, often in groups on private planes, to scout and talk to prospects.

This week, a slew of recruits in the 2025, 2026 and 2027 classes announced scholarship offers, including 6-2, 310-pound, 15-year-old defensive tackle Jeremiah Williams, who had 21 tackles and nine tackles for loss as a freshman at Tustin (Calif.) High School. Williams already has offers from Georgia, Texas and Washington, among others, and plays for a program full of talented freshmen. NU has offered another 2027 Tustin defender, Khalil Terry, who had 65 tackles as a freshman.

Another notable scholarship offer got extended to 2026 Philadelphia Roman Catholic quarterback Semaj Beals, who has thrown for 2,424 yards and 24 touchdowns over two prep seasons.

A three-star prospect according to Rivals, Beals has offers from Penn State, Rutgers and Syracuse, among others. He said Thursday NU likes “the style of passer I am” and wants Beals to attend a camp.

“I like to stay in the pocket,” said Beals, who wants to model his game after former Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud.

The 6-foot-1, 175-pounder is trying to squeeze in a trip. He already plans, either by himself or with his team, to attend camps at Alabama, Oklahoma, Colorado, Penn State, Duke and West Virginia, among others.

Nebraska has prioritized recruiting Philadelphia because of Rhule’s familiarity with the city during his time at Temple. NU has five players on its roster from Philly and five more from nearby New Jersey. Among cities, only Omaha, Lincoln and Miami have supplied more players to NU’s roster than Philadelphia.

Beals becomes the 14th 2026 quarterback offered by Nebraska. Two of them – Buford (Ga.) signal caller Dayton Raiola and Phoenix Brophy Prep’s Case Vanden Bosch – have NFL dads who starred at NU.

More recruiting notes:

* Nebraska remains on the hunt for 2025 edge rushers, offering two in the last week. Galveston (Texas) Ball’s Malcolm Simpson has 16 tackles for loss and seven sacks over the last two seasons. The 6-foot-4, 240-pounder also plays basketball. Nebraska found the other recent offer, Jayden Loftin, at Somerville, N.J., where the 6-4, 235-pounder had 19 tackles last season. Loftin got the NU offer May 17. He’s already scheduled official visits to Wisconsin, Tennessee, Minnesota and Penn State and added a June 14 visit to Nebraska on Friday.

Five NU assistants – defensive coordinator Tony White, defensive line coach Terrance Knighton, linebackers coach Rob Dvoracek and defensive backs coach Evan Cooper and running backs coach EJ Barthel – visited Loftin Wednesday in Somerville.

* Satellite camps aren’t nearly the rage they once were in 2016 – when Nebraska had one of the nation’s most aggressive schedules – but Husker coaches will again work several camps in Texas.

NU coaches plan to attend the Mary Hardin-Baylor Elite Camp June 3 – UMHB is a Division III powerhouse – and the June 4 camp at Houston Christian University, an FCS team that will play at Nebraska in 2025.

The Huskers have had modest success at satellite camps over the last decade. They discovered cornerback Dicaprio Bootle at one. Nebraska made prime contact with two-year NU receiver Marcus Washington at a satellite camp in St. Louis. And 2024 signee Braylen Prude got his scholarship offer at last year’s HCU satellite camp.

* Stanton lineman Ren Brown continues to grab high-profile interest. The 6-foot-6, 270-pounder got offers last week from Texas Tech and Northern Illinois. He already has an offer from Oregon State, Ohio and Eastern Michigan, among others.
