Former NU staffer named in lawsuit, ex-Huskers on the move

A former Nebraska football staff member best known for wearing sunglasses and standing close to Scott Frost during games has been named as one defendant in a high-profile NIL lawsuit filed by college quarterback Jalen Rashada.

Rashada, who spent one year at Arizona State and is now at rival Georgia, originally signed with Florida for what Rashada’s lawsuit claims was $13.85 million in NIL money.

According to CBS Sports’ reporting, Gator booster Hugh Hathcock and UF head coach Billy Napier, also named in the lawsuit, allegedly joined former NU director of player development Marcus Castro-Walker — then Florida’s director of NIL — in orchestrating “a fraud upon Jaden and were substantially and knowingly assisted by one another in carrying out the fraud.”

Castro-Walker still lists his location as Gainesville, Florida, although CBS Sports reported he no longer works for Florida. He joined the Gators after one year as Nebraska’s director of player development, where he served as a mentor for Husker football players. Frost hired Castro-Walker to replace Ron Brown in the role.

“Maybe going over to dorm three times a week wasn’t in his wheelhouse,” Frost said in early 2021 of Brown, who is now director of player support and outreach under Frost’s successor, Matt Rhule.

Castro-Walker became far better known for standing near Frost during games and donning sunglasses in all circumstances, including a night game against Michigan.

“Apparently Marcus’s role is to get on social media for standing behind me at games,” Frost said in October 2021. “He does a great job. I was always dehydrated during games before because I never thought to drink anything, and he’s always handing me a water bottle, which has been nice.”

Former Nebraska wideout signs to Syracuse

Former Nebraska receiver Will Nixon, who landed at Washington as a running back, has found a third collegiate home, according to ESPN.

Nixon will join his dad, Jeff, at Syracuse, where Jeff is the offensive coordinator. Jeff Nixon coached for Rhule at Baylor and for the Carolina Panthers.

Will Nixon had one career catch at Nebraska before transferring to Washington, where he had 54 career catches for 290 yards and 20 catches for 150 yards. He had two carries and three catches in the College Football Playoff title game and left the Huskies this spring.

Latrell Neville heading to New Mexico State

Former NU receiver Latrell Neville has landed at New Mexico State. It’ll be the fourth school for the former four-star recruit who signed in the Huskers’ much-lauded 2021 recruiting class.

Neville left Nebraska for North Texas, where he did not log a catch. From there, Neville matriculated to Jones College in Mississippi, where he had 11 catches for 109 yards last season. Neville now joins NMSU, which just hired new coach Tony Sanchez after Jerry Kill resigned.
