NU Travels East to Face Gardner-Webb, Campbell



The Nebraska wrestling team (2-2, 0-0 Big Ten) is set to face Gardner-Webb and Campbell on Saturday in Buies Creek, N.C. Action is slated to begin against Gardner-Webb at 4:30 p.m. and at 6 p.m. (CT) against Campbell.

Eight Huskers enter the weekend ranked, including returning All-Americans No. 1 Peyton Robb (157) and No. 2 Mikey Labriola (174). The All-American duo boasts an undefeated dual meet record (8-0) and has scored 27 dual meet points for the Big Red this season.

Nebraska meets both Gardner-Webb and Campbell for the first time in series history.

Last Time Out: The Nebraska wrestling team dominated No. 18 South Dakota State as the Huskers recorded two bonus point victories to grab the 22-17 victory on Sunday, Dec. 18. 

Up Next: The Huskers will host Minnesota (7-0, 0-0 Big Ten) for an 8 p.m. dual on Friday, Jan. 13. The meet will be televised on BTN.

Scouting the Bulldogs:

  • Last month, Gardner-Webb wrapped up the fall semester with a 23-15 loss at Ohio, their most recent dual match. The Bulldogs are currently 1-4 this season.
  • Last season, the Bulldogs went 7-7 overall and 5-2 in conference competition. They finished 61st at last year’s NCAA Tournament.

  • Campbell is currently 5-4 on the season, with victories over Little Rock, Buffalo, Utah Valley, Drexel and Purdue.

  • Nebraska won its fifth Cliff Keen Invitational team title in program history on Dec. 3.
  • Labriola was named the NCAA Wrestler of the Week and the USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week honor, when the award winners were announced last month.
  • In this week’s Intermat NCAA Wrestling Rankings, Husker junior Robb takes the top spot at 157 pounds. Senior Labriola and redshirt sophomore Hardy join Robb in the top five rankings as Labriola sits in second at 174 pounds and Hardy is in fifth at 141 pounds.
