NU Takes Second After First Day of Columbia 300 Saints



 

Valley Park, Mo – The Nebraska bowling team lands in 2nd after day one of the Columbia 300 Saints invitational with a 3-1 record and a total pinfall of 5,100. 

The Huskers started traditional-style matches against Maryville. In that match, Kayla Verstraete bowled eight consecutive strikes to help the Huskers take their first win of the day (1,087-973). In match two, Nebraska fell to McKendree (962-1,002), but bounced back in their third match against Central Missouri to take their second win by a score of 1,060-881. The Huskers faced off against Wisconsin Whitewater in match four where they bowled all strikes in frame two and claimed another win (1,019-906). Nebraska finished the day with a bye and scored 972. 

Three Huskers made the Top 10 during individual play. Kayla Verstraete secured second place with a total pinfall of 1,082 with Cassidy Ray (1,080) right behind in third. Not far after lies Kendyl Hofmeister (1,003) in eighth and Crystal Elliott (938) in 12th. Michelle Guarro (658)  landed in 20th place followed by Amara Smith Speights (339) in 29th.

Bowling will resume Sunday at 8:30 a.m. with Baker-style play. Combined results from Saturday and Sunday’s pinfall will determine the winner.
