NU Hosts Ohio State in Final Home Series



The Nebraska softball team (32-17, 12-8 Big Ten) closes the regular season with a three-game series against Ohio State at Bowlin Stadium in Lincoln, Neb. Game one is set for Friday, May 5 at 5:30 p.m. (CT). On Saturday, May 6, the Huskers and the Buckeyes face off at 1 p.m. with the final game set for Sunday, May 7, at 12 p.m.

 

Following Saturday’s game, Nebraska will honor its senior class with an on-field ceremony for Mya Felder and Courtney Wallace
 

Fans can listen to all three games live on the Huskers Radio Network and Huskers.com with the call from Nate Rohr. All three games will also be streamed live on BTN+ (subscription required). 

 

Nebraska and Ohio State are currently fourth and fifth, respectively, in the Big Ten standings.  The Huskers hold an all-time record of 15-9 against the Buckeyes, claiming three of the four series since joining the conference.

 

Nebraska’s offense is currently in the top three in the Big Ten in batting average (.312), home runs (55), hits (412) and slugging percentage (.509). Freshman Katelyn Caneda leads the Big Red offense with a .396 batting average and has tallied 57 hits including eight doubles, one triple, two home runs and 33 RBI. In the circle, Courtney Wallace (21-11) has appeared in 183.1 innings while tallying 119 strikeouts. 


Nebraska by the Numbers 

  • Nebraska is second in the conference in batting average (.312) and 28th in the nation. 
  • The Huskers are second in the Big Ten in shutouts with 11 and are ranked 36th in the NCAA.
  • NU ranks second in the Big Ten and 26th in the nation with a .508 slugging percentage. 
  • Katelyn Caneda is sixth in the conference with a .396 batting average, a mark that leads the Big Red. 
  • Billie Andrews is second in the Big Ten with 14 home runs. Brooke Andrews is seventh in the conference with 11 homers. 
  • Brooke Andrews is fifth in the Big Ten with 44 RBIs. 
  • Billie Andrews and Katelyn Caneda are fourth and fifth in total hits in the conference. 
  • Courtney Wallace is second in the Big Ten with 21 victories. She ranks 10th in the NCAA as Megan Faraimo of UCLA leads the nation with 26 wins. 

Ohio State by the Numbers

  • Ohio State is currently fifth in conference standings with a 10-10 Big Ten record.
  • The Buckeyes hold a team batting average of .310, a number that ranks third in the Big Ten behind Nebraska (.311) and Indiana (.320). 
  • Ohio State is in the top five in multiple offensive categories in the conference including doubles (83), home runs per game (0.96), on base percentage (.391), scoring (5.96), and slugging percentage (.505).
  • OSU holds a 3.92 ERA which ranks 11th in the Big Ten. 
  • Sophomore Melina Wilkison leads the Buckeyes with a .394 batting average, tallying 63 hits, 49 runs and 44 RBI. Wilkison has added 11 homers, 13 doubles and seven triples. 
  • Wilkison is in the top five among Big Ten players in batting average (.396), hits (63), RBIs per game (0.92), runs per game (1.02), slugging percentage (.774), and triples (7).
  • Junior right-handed pitcher Allison Smith has led Ohio State in the circle with 168.1 innings of work. Smith holds a 16-11 record, a 3.08 ERA and has tallied 194 strikeouts. 

Husker Quick Hits

  • Eight of Brooke Andrews’ 11 home runs came in the fourth inning or later this season.
  • Billie Andrews and Brooke Andrews have recorded a home run in the same game five times during their careers at Nebraska. 
  • Billie Andrews has tallied 14 home runs this season. She is now tied for sixth all-time in Nebraska history in career homers with 41. 
  • Andrews is one of 12 returning players in the NCAA who hit 20 or more home runs last season. 
  • Sarah Harness recorded a no-hitter against New Mexico on Feb. 24, 2023. It marked the first no-hitter by a Nebraska pitcher since 2016. 
  • Sarah Harness has  tallied 86 strikeouts this season and has combined for over 500 in her career including her three seasons at Southern Illinois. 
  • Mya Felder is the only returning Big Ten player who received All-Big Ten, All-Defensive and All-Tournament honors in 2022. 
  • Courtney Wallace is one of six returning Rawlings/NFCA Gold Glove recipients from last season.
