NU AD Bill Moos Announces Hiring of Two Veteran Athletic Administrators to his Staff

The Nebraska Athletic department announced on Wednesday that they have hired two athletic administrators that will be joining NU Athletic Director Bill Moos’ senior athletics staff – John Johnson and Garrett Klassy.

Johnson will serve as the Senior Deputy Athletic Director – Chief of Staff and Klassy will serve as the Senior Deputy Athletic Director – External operations. They will both officially start on July 29th.

“We are fortunate to add John Johnson and Garrett Klassy to our staff at Nebraska,” Moos said in a press release. “The administrative expertise these two will bring will continue to enhance our program as we work toward excellence which will lead to championships. John and Garrett will be great additions to our talented administrative team and provide great leadership for our athletic staff.”

Johnson will direct the department whenever Moos is out of town and will work closely with him on all other administrative tasks. He has spent the past 15 years at Washington State as the school’s Senior Associate Athletic Director. Washington State was also the school where Moos previously served as Athletic Director, from 2010 until 2017.

“I am grateful to Bill Moos for the opportunity to again work with him and his outstanding team,” Johnson said.  “It is an exciting time for the Huskers, and I look forward to being part of the incredible legacy and tradition that is Nebraska.”

Klassy spent the past two years as the Director of Athletics at the University of Illinois at Chicago, also known as UIC. While there, Klassy secured a naming rights partnership for Credit Union 1 Arena, valued at $9.3 million, according to an NU press release. Also during his tenure, UIC achieved a record high GPA and was the highest ranked school in the Horizon League in the 2018-19 Learfield Directors Cup for success in competition.

We will make sure the Nebraska brand is promoted globally and the great Husker fans will have an amazing experience at our events. I can’t wait to get started. GBR!”

Both Klassy and Johnson will be joining Moos’ senior staff with Deputy AD Bob Burton, Deputy AD SWA Pat Logsdon, Deputy AD/CFO John Hents, Executive Associate AD-Academics Dennis Leblanc and Executive Associate AD -Compliance Jamie Vaughn.
