No. 3 Huskers On the Road to Face No. 5 Michigan Wolverines



The No. 3 ranked Huskers men’s gymnastics team is headed to Ann Arbor, Mich. to take on the Wolverines for a Top 5 matchup this Saturday, Jan. 29 at 12:00 p.m. CT. This Big Ten matchup will count towards the Big Ten regular season championship standings.

Last Time Out

NU comes off a well-fought battle from the Rocky Mountain Open where they placed third in the overall competition with a 404.350, in addition to bringing home multiple individual titles. The Huskers followed closely behind second-place Stanford with a 407.500 and first-place Oklahoma with a 407.700.

Junior Sam Phillips led the Huskers, earning an individual title of first place on floor, fourth overall in all-around, as well as fifth in both vault and high bar. Senior Charlie Giles earned the pommel horse title after notching a career-high score of 14.45. Giles went on to earn second overall in vault as well as fifth on floor.

Scouting the Competition

The Wolverines are coming off earning back-to-back Windy City Invitational victory titles, where they notched a team score of 398.500 and now add a 7-0 to the season standings. Michigan won the all-around, five events, and went on to claim five individual event titles at the meet.  

Michigan was led by Junior David Willett who notched his second all-around title of the season with a score of 77.350, and went on to earn the Gary Morava Cup title. Jacob Moore claimed the floor title with a score of 14.050, and Markus Shears claimed the pommel horse title with a 14.150. Colin Stenger earned the rings title with 13.850. Nick Guy secured the vault title with a score of 14.750, and Virgil Watkins landed the parallel bars title with a score of 14.050.
