Nebraska Volleyball Continues Unbeaten Run with Sweep Over Rutgers

The top-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers Women’s Volleyball team once again showcased their dominance with a comprehensive sweep against Rutgers this past Sunday, solidifying their undefeated status in an already stellar season. In a display of sheer power and tactical acumen, the Huskers commanded the court at Jersey Mike’s Arena, bringing their season tally to an impressive 23-0 overall and a pristine 14-0 in Big Ten play.

The standout performer, Merritt Beason, continued her monstrous weekend with a striking performance that saw her notch up 21 kills, nine digs, and five blocks, with a remarkable .475 hitting percentage. This feat tied her with Kelsey Robinson for the most kills by a Husker in a three-set match in the 25-point rally-scoring era.

Complementing Beason, Ally Batenhorst added her firepower with 11 kills and seven digs, while Bekka Allick and Andi Jackson fortified the front with a combination of kills and blocks that overwhelmed the Scarlet Knights. The Huskers’ offense proved too potent, with the team hitting .288 against Rutgers’ .127.

On the defensive front, Nebraska was relentless. Lexi Rodriguez patrolled the backcourt with 16 digs, and Bergen Reilly orchestrated the offense with 43 assists while also adding 12 digs, showcasing her dual-threat capability. The team’s defensive discipline was evident as they out-blocked Rutgers 8-2, further cementing their status as one of the nation’s most formidable defenses.

The Huskers’ performance at Jersey Mike’s Arena was not just a victory but a statement of intent. With each match, they inch closer to replicating the legendary start of the 2006 team and perhaps even surpassing the 2005 squad’s 28-0 record. Nebraska’s consistent excellence this season is a testament to the team’s depth, talent, and the strategic leadership of the coaching staff.

As the Huskers prepare for their next match, the team remains focused on maintaining their unbeaten streak. With a mix of seasoned leadership and exciting young talent, Nebraska Volleyball is not just winning; they are capturing the imagination of fans and asserting their place in collegiate volleyball history.

The next challenge for the Huskers will be at home against Northwestern, where they aim to continue their march toward an unprecedented season. With their sights set on maintaining their number one ranking and pushing for post-season glory, the Nebraska Volleyball team’s journey is one that Husker fans will watch with bated breath and sky-high expectations.
