Hardware is in sight. Per a Big Ten Conference note published Friday morning, No. 1 Nebraska (23-0, 12-0 Big Ten) has an outside shot to clinch the regular-season championship this weekend, pending its own results and outcomes involving Penn State, Wisconsin and Oregon.
First vs. third in Eugene
Saturday at 9 p.m. CT on BTN is a first-vs.-third matchup at sold-out Matthew Knight Arena against No. 12 Oregon (10-2 Big Ten). The Huskers and Ducks lead the league in kills per set at 14.35 and 14.30. Nebraska is more efficient. Oregon is 10-0 at home and has four ranked wins this season behind Alanah Clemente and Sjakkie Donkers, who combine for 7.14 kills per set.
Then Seattle
Sunday at 5:30 p.m. CT on FS1, Nebraska faces No. 18 Washington (8-4 Big Ten), a team that has already beaten then-No. 6 Wisconsin and No. 10 Purdue on the road. The Huskies have matched their most Big Ten wins in a season with five conference matches still left.
Why the math is live
Nebraska is chasing a fourth consecutive regular-season Big Ten title. Seven Big Ten teams have already clinched tournament berths, and the top four earn byes to the quarterfinals of the inaugural Big Ten Volleyball Tournament in Fishers, Ind., Nov. 20-25. A clean Pacific Northwest trip would put the Huskers on the doorstep of another banner before Senior Night against Iowa on Nov. 14.
Paul Sunderland and Anna Connelly have the Oregon call. John Baylor and Lauren (Cook) West will be on the Huskers Radio Network for both matches.
