Nebraska volleyball fans travel. Oregon knows it. The Ducks announced that Saturday’s match against the top-ranked Huskers at Matthew Knight Arena is sold out, with doors at 5:30 p.m. Pacific and fans allowed to line up starting at 4 p.m.
First serve is 9 p.m. CT on BTN. No. 1 Nebraska (23-0, 12-0 Big Ten) then plays at Washington on Sunday.
Ogbechie: find the holes
Middle blocker Manaia Ogbechie hit .786 without an error against Michigan State last Saturday, with 11 kills and a team-high eight blocks, KOLN/Nebraska.tv reported. She had 11 kills and four blocks at Michigan the night before. She is still looking for what is next as opponents build scouting reports on her.
“It’s a really good opportunity to scope out our weaknesses,” Ogbechie said. She said she wants to expand her attacking range and improve her blocking footwork and speed.
Hunter’s seven-for-seven spark
Opposite Ryan Hunter matched her career high with seven kills on seven swings at Michigan State, working back after an injury and a redshirt season. Dani Busboom Kelly liked the attitude more than the stat line.
“She wasn’t worried about killing the ball or, ‘I have to do this to prove myself,'” Busboom Kelly said. “She was worried about giving joy to her teammates.”
The weekend’s key
Busboom Kelly described Oregon and Washington as aggressive serving teams, so serve and serve-receive are the emphasis this week. She called Washington a balanced group that plays well together and can build momentum.
No. 12 Oregon comes in 19-3 and 10-2 in the Big Ten, fresh off sweeps of Maryland and Iowa.
