Recruiting news moves fast and breaks wrong. This is our standing policy: what counts as a commitment, how we treat offers and visits, how we report portal moves, and why we never invent a board.

Evergreen pillar. Standing desk policy, as of Nov. 1, 2026. Weekly board movement lives in dated notebooks, not here.
Recruiting coverage is where Husker media most often gets ahead of the facts. This page explains how the HuskersToday Recruiting Desk works, so readers know what our headlines mean before they click.
What we call what
| Term |
What it means here |
Minimum sourcing |
| Offer |
A prospect publicly reports a Nebraska scholarship offer |
The prospect’s own public post, or a named credible outlet |
| Visit |
An unofficial or official visit to Lincoln |
Prospect or outlet confirmation, with the date |
| Commit |
A verbal, nonbinding pledge |
The prospect’s public announcement, plus an outlet listing such as 247Sports’ commit list |
| Signee |
A prospect who has signed with Nebraska |
Athletics announcement or official roster |
| Decommit |
A prospect publicly reopens his recruitment |
The prospect’s own statement, or a named outlet |
| Portal entry / transfer |
A player enters or leaves via the transfer portal |
Named outlet or athletics; verify against the official roster |
A commit is not a signee. We say so every time.

Rules we hold to
- No invented boards or rankings. We cite whose ranking it is (a named service, with a date) or we do not print a ranking.
- No anonymous “buzz.” “Trending,” “predicted” and crystal-ball style items are labeled as a service’s prediction, never as news.
- Dates on everything. Class counts and position tallies are snapshots; each one carries an as-of date.
- Minors get care. Recruits are mostly high school students. We report what they make public and nothing about their private lives.
- NCAA calendar language is quoted, not paraphrased. Dead and contact periods and signing windows come from the NCAA’s published calendar on the date of publication.
- Corrections go on top. When a report is wrong, the correction leads the post.
Where weekly news goes
Weekly commit, visit and portal updates publish as dated Recruiting Desk notebooks under Football. This page stays the same. The notebooks change.
