Minneapolis, Minn. — The Nebraska women’s gymnastics team battled hard against No. 5 Minnesota, but fell short by a score of 197.400-196.150. The Huskers posted their best team score of the season on Friday afternoon and senior Anika Dujakovich took home the vault event title.
Junior Kaitlyn Higgins posted a career-high on floor with a 9.90, while senior Kynsee Roby recorded a score of 9.925 on balance beam and a 9.90 on uneven bars. Dujakovich took home the vault event title with a 9.90.
Rotation One
Nebraska opened its afternoon on uneven bars. Roby led the way for the Huskers with a score of 9.90, which gave her a second-place finish on the event. Freshman Chloe Lorange picked up a score of 9.80, while sophomore Clara Colombo recorded a 9.775. Freshman Kinsey Davis grabbed a score of 9.75, while Kathryn Thaler was given a 9.50 following her routine. Freshman Kylie Piringer’s score of 9.050 was not counted.
Minnesota jumped to an early lead, as five Gophers recorded scores of 9.825 or higher on vault. Ona Loper’s score of 9.875 led the way for Minnesota as the Huskers trailed by a score of 49.250-48.725.
Rotation Two
The Huskers moved over to vault for the second rotation, where NU was led by Dujakovich. The senior from Lenexa, Kan. scored a 9.90 on the apparatus, while sophomore Kylie Piringer posted a 9.825. Freshman Martina Comin recorded a score of 9.80, while Higgins and senior Makayla Curtis both grabbed scores of 9.775. Freshman Danielle Press’ score of 9.725 was not counted.
The Gophers held onto their lead heading into the third rotation. Minnesota’s bars team was highlighted by a score 9.975 from Lexy Ramler. NU trailed Minnesota 98.575-97.800 after two rotations.
Rotation Three
Nebraska’s floor team posted a season-high of 49.250 in the third rotation. NU was led by Higgins, who recorded a career-high on the event with a score of 9.90. She was followed closely by Press who also posted a career-high of 9.875. Curtis picked up a season-high on the event with a score of 9.85, while Dujakovich posted a 9.825 on the event. Comin picked up a score of 9.80, while Piringer’s score of 9.775 was not counted.
Minnesota was able to hold off NU in the third rotation, holding a lead of 147.825-147.050 heading into the final stretch. The Gophers were led by Tiarre Sales on beam with a score of 9.95.
Rotation Four
The Huskers finished their afternoon on balance beam to take home their best overall team score of the season. All six NU gymnasts hit their routines, with three Huskers recording scores of 9.80 or higher. Roby led Nebraska with a score of 9.925, which was enough for third place on the event. Lorange posted a strong score of 9.85, while Curtis picked up a score of 9.825. Higgins was given a score of 9.775, while Thaler and Davis both received scores of 9.775, one of which was not counted.
Minnesota rounded out its afternoon on floor and won the meet by a score of 197.400-196.150.
Up Next
The Huskers return home for a non conference duel with Iowa on Sunday, March 14. The event will serve as NU’s senior night and takes place at 4 p.m. at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
