Nebraska receiver Victor Jones enters transfer portal

Nebraska bid adieu to a second outgoing transfer Tuesday in a receiver who didn’t see the field last season.

Victor Jones — a three-star prospect in the 2022 cycle — entered the portal a few hours after fellow redshirt freshman quarterback Richard Torres did the same. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound Orlando native sat out in the fall and didn’t figure prominently in media conversations with NU coaches this spring.

Jones made two catches for 10 yards in the spring game Saturday. The wideout thanked coach Matt Rhule and his staff for “the opportunity to play for this team and compete” through the early portion of the offseason.

“The past year at UNL has been great,” Jones said. “But life goes on.”

Nebraska still has 12 scholarship receivers set to be in the mix this fall after six more arrive this summer.

Further overall roster attrition is expected as the window for college football players to end the portal stays open through Sunday. Nebraska needs to be down to 85 scholarships by fall camp and still sits at roughly 96 when factoring in yet-to-arrive 2023 signees.

NU coaches are conducting one-on-one meetings with players this week to assess where they stand with the program.
