Nebraska receiver Alante Brown enters transfer portal

Nebraska has its first entrant into the transfer portal in the spring window.

Receiver Alante Brown announced his decision Saturday evening on social media. The former prep quarterback from Chicago who was part of the Huskers’ 2020 class finished fifth among NU pass catchers last season with 16 grabs for 191 yards.

Brown was not enrolled at UNL this semester and the team confirmed in mid-February that he was stepping away from the program with a chance to return. The wideout served as a return man for kickoffs last season and never became a primary weapon in the offense that he was often projected to be.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pounder departs with two years of eligibility remaining. He made 22 career receptions for 262 yards in 30 games (11 starts).

Brown becomes the 12th scholarship player to leave the team since the end of last season. Saturday was the first day college football players could put their name in the portal. Nebraska, at still roughly a dozen players over the 85-man scholarship limit, figures to see steady attrition before the transfer window closes on April 30.
