Nebraska names new football locker room after Frank Solich

Nebraska football had one more honor for Frank Solich on Saturday.

NU will name the new Husker football locker room after Solich, who played and coached the Huskers over the course of 40 years. Members of Nebraska’s Touchdown Club accompanied Solich on the field as the news was announced on the HuskerVision screens.

In brief comments after fans’ standing ovation, Solich thanked his family, former coach Tom Osborne and the 66,045 fans in attendance at the event.

“Whaddya say — let’s ‘Go Big Red!’ Solich said as he stood at midfield.

The football locker room in the new facility will officially be named the Frank Solich Locker Room, presented by the Touchdown Club of Nebraska, Inc. The Touchdown Club, according to a press release, made a contribution toward the football building.

Nebraska stuffed the day with tributes to Solich. Field personnel painted “45” yard markers on the field to commemorate Solich’s former jersey number. Then, on the first play of the game, current NU coach Matt Rhule called for a fullback trap — in honor of Solich. The play gained 7 yards. Rhule called timeout and presented the football to Solich on the sideline.
