Lincoln – After the second day of competition, the Nebraska bowling team moved up to tenth with a total pinfall of 9,966 at the Music City Classic on Saturday.
Top-ranked McKendree remains at the top of the tournament ladder (10,705), followed by No. 6 Arkansas St. (second, 10,453), No. 4 Vanderbilt (third, 10,444) and No. 8 Stephen F. Austin (fourth, 10,356).
Kendyl Hofmeister led the team in individual standings in 24th place, with a pinfall of 1,062. Michelle Guarro (31st) and Amara Smith Speights (32nd) landed right next to each other, both bowling 1,029, with Crystal Elliott (55th, 979) and Cassidy Ray (64th, 967) rounding out the lineup
In the first position round of the day, the Huskers fought No. 20 LIU and came away with a 1,063-882 win. Guarro led the team this match with six consecutive strikes and a pinfall of 230. Ray (218), Hofmeister (215), and Smith Speights (201) who all had games over 200 with Elliott rounding out the Huskers with 199.
NU was scheduled against No. 15 Tulane in the second position round and took the match 1,072-980 win. Elliott and Smith Speights tied for team high honors with 236 games. Hofmeister followed closely with another 215 game, with Guarro (202) and Ray (183) not far behind.
Nebraska marched on to bowl No. 8 Stephen F. Austin, falling 1,168-1,018. Guarro had her strongest performance of the day with a pinfall of 233, followed by Hofmeister with 226, Smith Speights (210), Ray (202) and Elliott (147).
The Huskers faced North Central in match four, claiming another victory 980-889. Elliott bowled 214 to lead the team, closely followed by Hofmeister (196), Ray (195) and Smith Speights (190). Guarro finished out the lineup with a 185.
The bowlers finished the day with a match against No. 23 Central Missouri, where they fought hard, but fell 947-933. This match was led by Hofmeister who bowled a 210, and was followed by Smith Speights (192), Elliott (183), Guarro (179), and Ray (169).
The tournament will finish tomorrow with three baker-style bracket games at 9 a.m. NU is scheduled to face No. 7 Louisiana Tech on its first match
