Nebraska Meets Wisconsin Saturday in Lincoln



The Nebraska women’s soccer team hosts its third consecutive home match on Saturday at Hibner Stadium as the Huskers face off against the Wisconsin Badgers at 2:05 p.m. (CT). The game can be streamed live on BTN+ (additional subscription required). 

Last Time Out

Nebraska played Michigan to overtime on Sunday, March 7, but ultimately fell 3-2 in the sixth minute of the second overtime period. Both Reagan Raabe and Marissa Popoola scored their first goals of their careers in the match and Dakota Chan picked up an assist. 

Next Up

Nebraska hits the road for its final scheduled away games, meeting Illinois on Thursday, March 18 and Northwestern on Sunday, March 21. 

Kicking Off

• All four of the Huskers’ goals this season are by players who have previously not scored in a Nebraska uniform. Freshmen Eleanor Dale, who scored twice against Purdue, and Reagan Raabe, who scored the first goal against Michigan, netted Nebraska’s first three goals of the season. Sophomore Marissa Popoola scored her first career goal off a corner in the game against the Wolverines  

• With a goal against Michigan and an assist against Purdue, Reagan Raabe has scored at least one point in each of Nebraska’s last two games. 

• Through the first four weeks of the season, Nebraska sits at 11th in the conference standings. 

• After playing three consecutive home games, the Huskers hit the road for two more road matches this season. The team returns to Hibner Stadium to close the regular-season against Rutgers, Penn State and Iowa.

Scouting the Wisconsin Badgers

•    Wisconsin is 3-2 on the year, including wins over Iowa, Michigan and Illinois. 

•    In their last match, the Badgers dropped their first home game of the season in a 0-2 decision against Purdue on Monday. 

•    Emma Kaskaniec and Claire Odmark are responsible for all of the Badgers’ goals this season, scoring two apiece. Cameron Murtha leads team with two assists on the year. 

•    Jordyn Bloomer returns to net for Wisconsin this season, with 10 saves on the year and a 0.667 save percentage.  She has helped the team to three shutouts this spring. 

•    The team is tabbed to finished second in the conference following their 2019 Big Ten Championship season.  

•    Head coach Paula Wilkins is 154-82-37 at the helm of the Badgers and is in her 14th year at Wisconsin. She is assisted by Tim Rosenfeld, Marisa Kresge and Jon Gulrajani. 

•    2020-21 Big Ten Preseason Players to Watch: 

»   #24 Jordyn Bloomer (Senior GK): Bloomer has started in goal for the Badgers for the last three seasons. She is the reigning Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year and earned All-American honors last season. 

»   #14 Maia Cella (Senior M): Named 2019 First Team All-Region and All-Big Ten and has played in every game since she joined the Badgers. This season, she has played every minute of the team’s five games and logged an assist against Illinois. 

»   #25 Cameron Murtha (Senior F): Has started every game for the Badgers during her career and was named 2019 Third Team All-North Region. Leads the team with two assists on the year.
