Nebraska Falls In 11th After First Day



Lincoln – The second-ranked Nebraska bowling team sits in 11th place with a pinfall of 4,900 after the first day of the Music City Classic.

Top-ranked McKendree (5,300) sits at the top in first place after day one, with No. 8 Stephen F. Austin (second, 5,171), No. 4 Vanderbilt (third, 5,129), and No. 3 Sam Houston (fourth, 5,073) trailing closely behind (in a field which includes 19 ranked teams including nine of the top 10 teams) 

NU started the day with a loss to No. 5 North Carolina A&T in the first match (1,008-967). Nebraska started off strong with wins in the game one (212-179) and two (199-189). The Huskers followed this game with another win in game three by a score of 224-138, but fell in the final two games (247-151 and 255-181).

In the second match of the day, the Huskers faced Alabama A&M, sweeping the matchup 923-783. The bowlers secured a close victory in game one (165-162), and built off of that to win game two (213-153). NU went on to win the next two games (176-153 and 186-154) and rounded out the match with final win by a score of 183-161.

Next up, the bowlers faced No. 16 Sacred Heart in match three, walking away with a 1,016-834 sweep. Nebraska claimed an early 2-0 lead win wins in the first two games (192-160 and 198-186). The Huskers never looked back as they found victory in the remaining three games (210-197, 195-147 and 221-144).

In match four, Nebraska faced top-ranked McKendree, falling 1,145-960. NU fought hard in the first two games, but lost (244-162 and 233-227). The bowlers bounced back in the third game and took a win by a score of 245-211. The Huskers faced defeat in the final two games (220-160 and 237-166).

The finish out the day, the Huskers beat Drury in the fifth matchup 1,034-869. The first two games were split as NU took victory in game one (169-150), but fell in game two (246-189). The bowlers rebounded in game three to take another win by a score of 289-133, but suffered a loss in game four (171-162). Nebraska powered through to win game five by a score of 225-169 and secure the match.

The tournament continues Saturday at 9:30 a.m. with two position rounds against No. 20 LIU and No. 15 Tulane.
