NCAA Baseball Rankings

As of today, April 12th, Nebraska leads the big ten yet is not ranked by any of the polls but Michigan is and I’m in this weird middle ground of being furious but also okay with it, here’s why:

Furious with rankings – besides the whole record thing of being 1st in the big 10, just the teams overall performance so far should indicate that they’re a team that should be taken seriously. Without going too deep into numbers, they have yet to lose a series or have a losing record with a team they’ve faced (Ohio state being the only tied record at 1-1), and besides the first series of the season against Purdue (which game 1 was a close one with Purdue winning in the bottom of the 9th), they have won the first game against every new opponent, which is gonna be HUGE come tournament time. Not to mention, every other game seems to be like a hitting clinic as half our wins was putting up 10+ runs. Also just a slap in the face seeing #25 as the highest anyone has Nebraska on a poll (see edits).

Okay with rankings – the huskers love being the underdogs and proving people wrong. Ranking Michigan over us is gonna make that home series at the end of the regular season even better. Plus, as good as the team is offensively, the pitching isn’t as deep as it used to be the past couple years as the team only has a few great pitchers, with many more that need some more development through this season. So between that and the uncertainty of what new(ish) HC Will Bolt can do with the team, I can understand why media and coaches haven’t put more votes into Nebraska.

TL;DR: Nebraska unranked is bullshit but is understandable.

Edit: highest Nebraska rank in a poll: 54 to 39; 39 to 29; 29 to 25 (Perfect Game Top 25)
