Michigan State 17, Nebraska 5: A Sad Baseball Story

East Lansing, MI- It started out as a disaster, and it was a disaster. Facing a 7-19 Michigan State team who had one conference win, Nebraska was steamrolled. Luis Alvardao had a rough first inning, and the bullpen was a dumpster fire.

Senior starter Alvarado allowed five runs in the first inning. None of the five runs were earned, as two errors contributed to a big inning for the Spartans.

After a walk to Justin Antoncic started the Spartans first, two errors allowed the Spartans to load the bases. Luis got a big strikeout for the first out before Ryan King singled to score two runs. Chad Roskelly laid down a bunt to load the bases again. Marty Bechina was hit by a pitch to stretch the lead to 3-0. Nine hole hitter Bryce Kelley got a solid single to center to plate two more for the Spartans.

Nebraska scored the next four runs, with one in the third and three in the fifth. Nolan Hakel, getting his first career start walked to start the third. A fielder’s choice put Mojo Hagge on first. He scored when Jesse Wilkening singled into the gap in right center with two outs. Luke Roskam stranded Wilkening with a strikeout.
