Michaela Vavrova Earns Prestigious Slovakian Women’s Golfer of the Year Award for Second Time

The Nebraska Cornhuskers have much to celebrate as senior Michaela Vavrova has been honored with the Slovakian Women’s Golfer of the Year award for the second consecutive year, a testament to her outstanding performance and dedication to golf. This accolade, bestowed by the Slovak Golf Association, underscores Vavrova’s significant impact both internationally and within the Nebraska golf program.

Vavrova, who etched her name in history as the first Slovakian women’s golfer to compete for the Huskers, has been instrumental in securing NCAA Regional berths for the team in both 2021 and 2023. Demonstrating continuous improvement and an unwavering commitment to excellence, she achieved a personal best 72.92 stroke average over 12 rounds in the fall of 2023. Her remarkable performance was highlighted at the Sam Golden Invitational (Sept. 11-12), where she shot a career-low 205 (-11) to tie for fifth place, showcasing her skill and competitive spirit.

The award, which Vavrova first received in 2022, came after her exceptional display at the Women’s Amateur Team Championships in late August 2022, where she delivered Slovakia’s top individual performance. Her journey to this pinnacle of success began early, as she clinched the Slovakian U18 Junior Champion title twice, demonstrating her potential and passion for golf from a young age. Since 2021, Vavrova has been a proud member of the Slovak Elite National Team, representing her country with distinction on the international stage.
