Lincoln Native Josiah Allick to Join Huskers

Lincoln – Nebraska Men’s Basketball Head Coach Fred Hoiberg announced Thursday that Lincoln native Josiah Allick will transfer from New Mexico to Nebraska for his final collegiate season in 2023-24.

Allick, a 6-foot-8, 235-pound forward, gives the Huskers another veteran frontcourt player with size and experience. He has played in 103 career games, including 84 starts, and totaled over 1,000 points and 600 rebounds in his collegiate career.

“We are thrilled that Josiah has decided to come home and play his final season of college basketball at Nebraska,” Hoiberg said. “Josiah is as hard a worker as anyone, and his toughness and energy will be a huge benefit for our team and something our fans will embrace. Josiah is an excellent rebounder who has the ability to score both inside and outside. He has made big contributions at both UMKC and New Mexico in his college career, and we expect he will be able to impact our program similarly in a very positive way both on and off the court.”

Last season, Allick started all 34 games for the Lobos, who went 22-12 and reached the NIT. He averaged 8.4 points on 56 percent shooting and 7.3 rebounds per game. Allick was second in the Mountain West Conference in rebounding and was 12th in blocked shots in 2022-23. He had 13 double-figure scoring efforts, including a season-high 18 points on 8-of-9 shooting against SMU. Allick had two double doubles, a 15-point, 15-rebound effort against Wyoming and a 15-point, 13-rebound effort against Oral Roberts. He also grabbed 18 rebounds against Boise State.

Allick spent his first three seasons at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, helping the school to 19 wins in 2021-22, the school’s highest win total in 30 years. That season, he averaged 12.9 points per game on 55 percent shooting and 6.1 rebounds per game in just 16 contests because of injury. He finished with 11 double-figure games, including a season-high 21 points against both Minnesota and South Dakota State. He finished the year playing his best basketball, averaging 17.2 points and 7.8 rebounds per game in his last five contests, including a pair of double-doubles. Allick earned honorable-mention All-Summit League honors in 2021-22, as he started 15 contests and averaged 15.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. He topped the Summit League in field goal percentage (.573) and had 18 double-figure games, including seven 20-point contests. He played in 30 games as a true freshman, averaging 5.7 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. He had nine double-figure performances, including 11 points and 13 boards against Grand Canyon.

Allick was a first-team all-city performer at Lincoln North Star High School, where he averaged 15.3 points and 9.8 rebounds per game as a senior for Coach Tony Quattrocchi. He established school records for rebounds in a game (18) and season (255). Allick was a multi-sport athlete who also played football and track for the Navigators.

Allick’s younger sister, Bekka, is a starting middle blocker for the Husker volleyball program. Josiah Allick is the first Husker basketball player from Lincoln North Star.
