Lincoln City Council Passes Inter-local Agreement Funding School Safety Initiatives

The Lincoln City Council has passed a proposal to fund school safety objectives for Lincoln schools. After weeks of debate between the mayor’s office, the Lincoln City Council and the Lincoln Public Schools Board of Education, the revised inter-local agreement is seen as a compromise between all parties. The agreement would see the city and L.P.S each put forward 1.05 million per year toward funding the initiatives. It would also see to the creation of an Inter-local board that could increase funding by up to 5% per year, as needed.

The money would go toward funding six additional resource officers for Lincoln Middle Schools, community learning center after school programs and additional mental health services for L.P.S students. The L.P.S Board of Education is set to vote on the proposal Tuesday.

The proposal must be passed by both bodies before it can be enacted
