If B1G gets to 20 teams including Notre Dame, instead of pods

B1G should have 3 protected annual games per team per season. The biggest problem with pods is that you’d have Michigan, OSU, MSU, PSU in one and Maryland, Rutgers, Indiana and purdue in another. If you tried to swap PSU and purdue, PSU would not accept being in that pod.

These protected games make the most sense

USC- ND, UCLA, Washington

UCLA- USC, Nebraska , Oregon

Stanford – Washington, ND, Oregon

Washington- Oregon, USC, Stanford

Oregon- Washington, Stanford, ucla

Ohio state- Michigan, PSU, Illinois

Michigan- OSU, MSU, Rutgers

MSU- Michigan, northwestern, PSU

PSU- OSU, Maryland, MSU

Rutgers- Michigan, Maryland, Indiana

Maryland- PSU, Rutgers, Indiana

Notre dame- USC, Stanford, Purdue

Iowa- Wisconsin, Minnesota, Nebraska

Purdue- ND, Indiana, northwestern

Northwestern- Purdue, MSU, Illinois

Wisconsin- Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska

Illinois- northwestern, Minnesota, OSU

Minnesota- Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois

Nebraska- Iowa, Wisconsin, ucla

Indiana- Maryland, Rutgers, Purdue

Northwestern- Purdue, Illinois, MSU

Out of all the protected games only UCLA v Nebraska and to a lesser degree Indiana v Maryland and Mich v Rutgers would not be natural fits. Then each team plays 6 other B1G teams each season. With 16 other teams that aren’t protected games, each B1G team would play every single other team every 2.67 years. About 4 times every 10 years.
