I think we need to realize something.

Nebraska football as we knew it died after we left the Big 12. There’s no going back. The entire landscape of CFB has changed since then, and we were lucky enough to land in a very stable and wealthy P2 conference. Big media and money ruined old CFB, and Nebraska seems to have been a casualty. That chapter of greatness closed.

We are now a Big 10 west team in a very low populated state. We are Minnesota. We are Illinois. We are Iowa. But with less population. This rebuild is no longer to restore Nebraska to dominance. It’s to turn a school like Iowa into a school like Michigan. That’s the end goal. It will take years. Rhule inherited a very passionate and wealthy Purdue. First we’ve got to beat the equivalents. We’re doing that in year 1.

A bowl would be an amazing feat year 1. Next year would be great to be looking at 6-7 wins. The next step would be maybe 8. We have to consistently reach bowl games and have winning seasons before we start talking about conference standings.

TL;DR – we can’t look at Nebraska through the lense of returning a blue blood to dominance. That ship said when CFB went to shit and we joined a conference we had no history with in a very weak football culture division. We’ve got to start from zero and work up.
