Huskers Wrap Up ITA Regionals

Lincoln – The Nebraska men’s tennis team finished play in the ITA Regionals after seniors Dario Huber and Victor Moreno Lozano battled Arkansas’ Trione and Pinto to a second-set tie break.

The doubles duo dropped the first set 6-3, but fought back to even the score at 6 to force a second-set tie break. Ultimately, Trione and Pinto defeated the Huskers 7-5 in the tie break to advance into the doubles championship. Huber and Lozano finished the tournament with a doubles record of 4-1, with an appearance in the main draw semifinals.

Overall, the Huskers won 16 singles matches and seven doubles matches. Senior William Gleason advanced to the quarterfinals of the main draw in singles action before falling to the tournament’s top seed, Mason Beiler. The duo of sophomore Rudra Dixit and freshman Roni Hietaranta made it to the quarterfinals before falling just short to Arkansas’ Manuel and Burdet. Junior Shunya Maruyama and sophomore Nic Wiedenhorn also moved on to the round of 16 before falling to Lo and Richards of Wichita State.

The Huskers final matches of the fall will take place at the Big Ten Individual Championships in Lansing Mich. beginning Nov. 5 and running through Nov. 7.
