The Nebraska men’s tennis team (1-11, 1-11 Big Ten) will play Northwestern (10-5, 9-4 Big Ten) this Friday, March 5, at 5:00 p.m. CT and Illinois (14-2, 11-1 Big Ten) this Sunday, March 7, at 12 p.m. CT in Lincoln at the Dillon Tennis Center for the last two home matches of the season. Attendance is now open with free admission to the general public.

Scouting Northwestern

• The Wildcats finished the 2019-2020 season with a 10-5 record overall and a 0-1 record in Big Ten play, with quality wins over Louisville, Kentucky and Vanderbilt.

• Dominik Stary and Steven Forman have both completed at the No. 1 position in singles with a 6-4 combined record. 

• Thirteen-year veteran head coach Avrid Swan, has led the NU men’s program since 2008 with his first NCAA tournament appearance occurring in 2009 and with six consecutive appearance from 2012-17. 

• The Wildcats are coming off two conference wins against Minnesota and Wisconsin last weekend.

Series History

• Northwestern holds a 0-9 all-time advantage over Nebraska, as the teams’ rivalry started when NU joined the Big Ten in 2011-2012. 

• The Wildcats have won all contests against the Huskers, including a 5-2 win in 2019. 

Scouting Illinois

• The Fighting Illini closed the 2020 spring season with an 5-6 record overall, a 2-0 record in Big Ten competition and wins over Notre Dame, No. 23 Northwestern and Purdue.

• Illinois has recorded a winning record every year while under head coach Brad Dancer, who is entering his seventh season.

• Illinois is on a ten-match win streak including a recent victory on Senior Day against Minnesota.

Series History

• Illinois leads the all-time series 0-9, with the first matchup against the Fighting Illini resulting in a 1-6 loss in the 2011-2012 season.

 • The Fighting Illini have won each match against the Huskers, including a 0-7 win in 2019.

Huskers Get First Big Ten Win of the Season

• The Huskers defeated the Hawkeyes 4-3 on Sunday at home, with four players claiming the point in their singles matches.

• This win broke a six-game all-time losing streak against Iowa, improving the record to 5-9.

Nebraska Will Host Big Ten Tennis Championships

• Nebraska will host the Big Ten Championships at the Sid Dillon Tennis Center April 29 – May 2.   

• The Big Ten Conference has also announced public ticket sales will be allowed at the event.
