Huskers Travel to NC State for Stitch

The Nebraska men’s golf team returns to North Carolina for the Stitch Intercollegiate in Raleigh on Friday, April 8.

NC State hosts the two-day, 54-hole event that features a challenging 13-team field. Among the teams taking on the par-72, 7,251-yard layout of Lonnie Poole Golf Club includes No. 13 Notre Dame, along with a pair of teams receiving votes in the coaches poll, Eastern Tennessee and NC State. Rounding out the field is Air Force, Campbell, College of Charleston, Davidson, Duke, Georgia Southern, Jacksonville State, Toledo and UNC-Greensboro.

The event is set to begin with 36 holes on Friday, teeing off at 7 a.m. (CT). The tournament concludes with the final 18 holes beginning on Saturday at 7 a.m. (CT). Live scoring will be provided by GolfStat.com.

Nebraska’s five-player lineup includes four seniors, led by Mark Foelbaek. The senior from Jelling, Denmark has been a part of each lineup this spring, but it marks his first time this season playing in the top spot in NU’s lineup. Foelbaek tied for 20th at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate with a 222 (+6).

Tom Westenberger enters the tournament as Nebraska’s No. 2 golfer. The senior from Wuppertal, Germany has been a consistent leader, finishing among NU’s top two in each spring tournament.

Caleb Badura (Aurora, Neb.) is set to play out of the No. 3 spot, while Branden Meyer (Gilbert, Ariz.) makes his sixth straight lineup appearance for the Huskers. Sophomore Gentry Scheve (Emporia, Kan.) will make his competitive debut for the spring season, while fellow sophomore Reed Malleck (York, Neb.) will play as an individual outside Nebraska’s lineup. Malleck produced a 3-0 record at the Big Ten Match Play in February.
