Huskers Travel to Maryland for Three-Game Series



The Nebraska softball team (25-12, 5-3 Big Ten) travels to College Park to take on Maryland in a three-game series this weekend, April 7-9. Game one is set for 5 p.m. (CT) on Friday, April 7. On Saturday, the Huskers and the Terrapins will face off at 1 p.m. (CT). Game three is set for 11 a.m. (CT) with live television coverage from the Big Ten Network. 

 

Fans can listen to all three games live on the Huskers Radio Network and Huskers.com with the call from Nate Rohr. The first two games will also be streamed on BTN+ (subscription required). 

 

Nebraska currently is in the top three in the Big Ten numerous offensive categories including batting average (.323), hits (316), doubles (62), home runs (43), RBI (185) and slugging percentage (.529). 

 

Junior Billie Andrews leads the Big Red offensive and is among the top five in the conference in home runs (11), hits (43) and runs (31). Freshman Katelyn Caneda leads the team with a .416 batting average. Caneda has added 42 hits including six doubles, one triple, two home runs and 25 RBI. 
 
In the circle, Courtney Wallace (16-7) has appeared in 129.2 innings while tallying 78 strikeouts. Sarah Harness (8-4) has added 66.2 innings of work, striking out 71 batters. 

Nebraska By the Numbers 

  • The Huskers are second in the Big Ten in shutouts with nine and are ranked 29th in the NCAA. 
  • Nebraska is second in the conference in batting average (.323) and is 17th in the nation.
  • NU ranks second in the Big Ten and 17th in the NCAA with a .529 slugging percentage.  
  • Katelyn Caneda is fifth in the Big Ten with a .416 batting average, a mark that leads the Big Red.

  • The Terrapins leads the conference in stolen bases per game, averaging 2.00 stolen bases per game. 
  • Maryland is second in the Big Ten with a .974 fielding percentage. 
  • Amelia Lech ranks second in the conference and 13th in the NCAA wiht 12 home runs this season.
  • Lech is averaging 1.03 RBI per game, a number that is second in the Big Ten. 
  • Lech holds a .820 slugging percentage which is second-best in the conference and 23rd in the nation. 
  • Megan Mikami leads the Terrapins with 17 stolen bases. Mikami is second in the Big Ten with that total.
  • Courtney Wyche leads the Maryland pitching staff with a 12-4 record. Wyche has pitched 95.0 innings, striking out 110 while holding opponents to 36 earned runs. 

Husker Quick Hits  

  • Sarah Harness recorded her 500th career strikeout this year. The junior has  tallied 71 strikeouts this season and has combined for over 500 including her three seasons at Southern Illinois. 
  • Billie Andrews and Brooke Andrews have recorded a home run in the same game five times during their careers at Nebraska. 
  • Billie Andrews has tallied 11 home runs this season, she is now seventh all-time in Nebraska history in career homers with 38. 
  • Andrews is one of 12 returning players in the NCAA who hit 20 or more home runs last season. 
  • Sarah Harness recorded a no-hitter against New Mexico on Feb. 24, 2023. It marked the first no-hitter by a Nebraska pitcher since 2016. 
  • Mya Felder is the only returning Big Ten player who received All-Big Ten, All-Defensive and All-Tournament honors in 2022. 
  • Courtney Wallace is one of six returning Rawlings/NFCA Gold Glove recipients from last season.
