Huskers Travel to Champaign for Tri-Meet



The Nebraska men’s gymnastics team is set to take on No. 2 Michigan and No. 7 Illinois this Sunday, Feb. 21 at 2:00 p.m. CT in Champaign, Illinois. The Big Ten matchup this Sunday will count towards the Big Ten regular season championship standings. 

Last Time Out

The No. 3 Huskers are coming off a big win against the Golden Gophers where they won 407.700-397.800. Nebraska’s home opener was highlighted by five event titles. Jake Bonnay claimed the floor title after earning a 14.50 on his routine. On pommel horse, Evan Kriley claimed the title with a score of 13.85. Dillan King won his first individual title of his career on parallel bars with a 13.80. 

Taylor Christopulos, who claimed two event titles, earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week and NCAA Rookie of the Week for his performance against Minnesota. Christopulos earned these honors after winning the rings title, finishing third on floor (14.30), fourth on high bar (13.35) and winning the vault title with the nation’s highest scoring vault this season (14.95). 

Scouting the Competition

No. 2 Michigan is competing for the first time since Jan. 17 after facing a university pause on all athletic activities. The Wolverines (1-0) posted a team score of 409.000 in their first meet against UIC. The Wolverines are led by sophomore Paul Juda, who is currently the top-ranked all-around gymnast in the NCAA with a score of 86.55. Senior Cameron Bock holds the second-pace national spot with an average score of 83.30. 

No. 7 Illinois (2-2, 1-2 Big Ten) is coming off of a close loss to Iowa (400.500-402.000). Despite losing, the fighting Illini claimed three event titles, senior Danny Graham won rings (14.10), sophomore Connor McCool won floor (14.25) and junior Ian Skirkley won pommel horse (13.70).
