Huskers to Battle Penn State in Big Ten Home Opener



The Big Red returns home to Lincoln for another Big Ten matchup to take on Penn State this Saturday, Feb. 5 at the Bob Devaney Sports Center at 6:30 p.m. CT. The meet will count towards the Big Ten regular season championship standings.

Last Time Out

The Huskers are coming off a tough loss against Michigan after falling 400.050 (Nebraska) to 409.100 (Michigan). Despite the minor setback, the Huskers still brought home 3 individual titles. Jake Bonnay claimed the floor title after notching a 14.45. Evan Kriley notched a 14.00 on the pommel horse, claiming the title. Taylor Christopulos collected the vault title with a score of 14.65.

Following the meet, Chris Hiser went on to win Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors. 

Ahead of the meet, NU ranks second on floor, fourth on pommel horse, fifth on still rings, fourth on vault, third on parallel bars, second on high bars, and third overall in the all-around.

Scouting the Competition

The Nittany Lions are coming off a close loss to Illinois after coming up short (396.550-397.250) this past weekend, dropping to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in the Big Ten conference.

Penn State clinched 3 individual event titles all from gymnast Michael Jaroh. On pommel horse, the sophomore tied for first with teammate Chase Clingman, notching a 13.60. On rings, Jaroh earned a 14.05, and went on to win another individual title on parallel bars with a score of 13.80. Few weeks prior, Jaroh was named a 2022 pre-season Big Ten men’s gymnastics- gymnast to watch.
