Huskers Take On Purdue To Open Big Ten Season



The Nebraska men’s tennis team (0-1, 0-1 Big Ten) opened the Big Ten season with a close match loss against the Purdue Boilermakers (1-0, 1-0 Big Ten) on Friday. After taking the doubles point, the Huskers went on to gain two singles points, finishing the match 3-4. 

The Huskers faced the Boilermakers in three doubles matches and six singles matches. In doubles, Victor Moreno Lozano teamed up with William Gleason to get their first win of the season, defeating Purdue’s number one team, 6-2. Also notching their first doubles win, Albert Sprlak-Puk and teammate Patrick Cacciatore matched up against Tomasz Dudek and Milledge Cossu, finishing the match 6-4. 

On the singles side, Nic Wiedenhorn recorded his first win of the season beating Santiago Galan in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1. Shunya Maruyama improved his overall singles record to 2-4 with his straight set defeat of Purdue’s Tomasz Dudek, 7-6, 6-1. Finishing the singles play was Sprlak-Puk, who lost a close one to Michal Wozniak, but took the match to three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 6-7 (3).

Up next, the Huskers will stay home and take on the Indiana Hoosiers this Sunday, Feb. 21 at 11 a.m.
